Registration Terms & Rules
In order to proceed, you must agree to the following:
As a member of this club you are required to familiarise yourself with the following rules before you register and post to the boards, registering and posting to the boards is taken as your acceptance to these terms:

Introduce Yourself.
Phoenix Rising is an open community and you are more than welcome to browse the forums without joining in with the discussion, however; you are required to at least introduce yourself in this thread or create your own thread in the Off Topic section of the forums.

Once registered you will be added to the "Lurker" user group and will have the same access as a Guest but will also be able to see and post to the "Off Topic" thread in the members Only area of the boards.

Once you have posted your introduction you will automatically become a full member and be added to the "Board Member" user group and will be able to post to all available sections of the boards and have access to all basic member areas and features (some features require a minimum of 5 posts).

Accounts with 0 posts do not have access to the Members only features of the site and accounts over 7 days old with 0 posts will be deleted.

Age Restriction.
Phoenix Rising is a friendly, welcoming environment, where like minded people can discuss Science-Fiction. We are an open club but as the discussion is aimed at adults we have imposed an age restriction. All members must be 18 years of age or over. You agree by registering on this forum that you are over 18 years of age. Any member found to be under this age will have their account deleted.

Private messaging and email.
You cannot use the Private Messenging (PM) system or send email to other members until you have made at least 5 posts on the boards; this is in place to help prevent spam.
Posting pointless messages to pad out your post count in order to use the messaging system or email will be treated as spam and will be dealt with accordingly.

No flaming, trolling, harassing, or baiting other guests.
Flaming should be self evident, trolling means to make posts or threads for the intended purpose of starting an argument, while baiting is any post intended to make another user resort to flaming. Harassment means following a user or group of users around through multiple threads to flame them, bait them, or otherwise cause them to want to avoid the boards because of a user's actions towards them. If there is a discussion and there ends up some sort of disagreement on someones personal opinion, simply try and respect each others opinions without forcing them on others.

Example of a disagreement with opinions:

Your reason for supporting your political view is not good because...
Is an acceptable statement.

If you believe that you suck and are stupid...
Is not an acceptable statement.

No excessive cursing, violence, or sexual content.
Most of us around here are adults and this is not an excuse to allow excessively foul language, nor the graphic depictions/descriptions of violence or sexual situations. Use common sense.

No hate speech.
No racial slurs, religious discrimination, sexism, homophobic remarks, etc. Phoenix Rising is open and welcoming to everyone, and we plan on keeping it that way.

No discussion nor promotion of illegal activities.
This includes but is not limited to drug use, solicitation of a minor, and copyright infringement (including the distribution of files such as video game ROMs and PDFs of commercially available books).

No Spam or Commercial Advertising.
Do not make threads that have absolutely no constructive purpose (such as "Post about anything here!" threads). If your thread does not have at least some attempt at a topic, it will be considered spam and locked. This includes spam posts just so you can pad your post count. We are also not here to be free advertising to make you money. If you want to advertise on the forums, contact a moderator or the site admin and we'll see about working something out with you. Otherwise, any thread linking to a commercial site for the express purpose of getting guests to buy things from it will be locked, and the link removed. Do not continuously bump your thread as this can be considered spam to pad up your post count, let others move it back to the top.

Post in the correct sections.
Each section is labeled so we all should realize that Star Wars discussion goes in the Star Wars forum and not the General Discussion area. If you post in the wrong section, your thread may be moved to the proper forum with or without notification. If you find that you have posted something in the wrong section and it is an error, please contact a moderator or administrator to move the thread to it's appropriate section do not make a duplicate post.

Do not make duplicate threads.
When you want to make a new thread, do a quick search using the 'search' button at the top of the page (if it is functioning). When searching for any given term, make sure to click on 'search for all terms', or you will get pages of unrelated posts. If there is already a thread on that subject, post to it instead of making a new thread. If multiple threads on the same subject are discovered, the odds are that one of them will be locked. If your post is locked please do not make duplicate threads of the same subject as it was locked for a reason.

Do not create multiple accounts or "sock puppets".
Making dual accounts is heavily frowned upon so do not make one. If you are found having a dual account an immediate permanent ban from Phoenix Rising will be enforced!

Do not create improper usernames.
Vulgar usernames, or usernames that are intentionally copying an existing user for the purpose of trying to trick people into thinking you are that poster will not be tolerated. Any name that is deemed improper will be modified by the staff as they see fit. If you re-register with the same name after it has been deemed inappropriate, it will be banned outright. If you think the name you are signing up with is kind of iffy, then don't use it.

Post in a readable form.
The forums support different colours for posts, but be responsible about it. All of the forums use a dark gray background, so posts written in Black, Brown or Dark Blue, for example, are extremely difficult to read without highlighting. Use some common sense, if you can't read what you wrote, neither can anybody else.

Mod's the Word.
If a moderator/administrator has to step in and hand out warnings/bans or other disciplines adhere to their wishes. Do not treat the warning as grounds for a personal vendetta. Warnings are carefully thought out, and flaming, bating or harassing a staff member because of it will only lead to a harsher reprimand.

Signatures.
Quite frankly, we don't want to put up any 'guidelines' on signatures, all we ask is that you put your real name in there. This is a site we want to relax at and not have to deal with the downright sillyness of '460 px by 100 px with 3 lines of text and no bold but you can having red color but not blue' nonsense seen on other forums.

HOWEVER: Nobody wants to scroll 2 page lengths past signatures, and nobody should have to. We give you freedom - just don't abuse it!

Most important of all, have fun.
This stuff all boils down the golden rule anyway, do unto others as you would have them do unto you. If you don't want somebody doing it to you, then don't you do it to them.
